Sometimes, the best things in life happen by accident. Chocolate chip cookies and chimichangas are all, if legends are to be believed, the result of happy accidents. Likewise, the Bitter Shmidt is the result of a colossal mistake make by Shmidt Spirits president Arthur Shmidt. Trying to make a play on a Pimm’s Cup, Arthur accidentally replaced Pimm’s with Campari (no one knows why). This, plus the over-substitution of gin, created a brand new, wonderful drink.
The Bitter Shmidt begins with a chilly, easy-drinking hint of grapefruit that mellows out into a smooth, slightly battered Campari finish. Easy-drinking but with a distinctive character, the Bitter Shmidt is a brand new cocktail that should help those warming spring and balmy summer days slip on by. Mix up a pair for your friends, and let them know this curious concoction can only be made with Shmidt Spirits Viridian.
